I get why some folks don't like it but really I'm fine with it or RR4/5's. I was worried about the whole auto-drift changes that I had heard were introduced in RR6(?) but it feels fantastic because it lets you worry less about your initial trajectory into a turn and focus more on controlling the drift itself (though as you progress and the game gets harder, this changes). It's great that you're given that much control but even in a non-sim gameplay feel, it's a bit strange to just be able to cross all the lanes of a track without hardly changing your car's angle from pointing forward. I won't belabor what Ridge Racer is beyond some juicy arcade racing, a genre that means when your car gets sideways you're actually doing great and not screwing up.Īll I'll say about the base driving in this game is that there is just a teensy bit too much stiffness to the car when driving normally. Last night I rolled credits after 11 & 1/2 hours and now I desperately need a new RR game to sink my teeth into next. Thankfully that feeling came back over the course of the past couple weeks and I was finally able to play this game, despite some weirdness with my PS3. I've been sitting on this game for a year and a half, just waiting for the perfect time for my love of cars to strike again.
